My Little [Side] Pony! [HAIRSTYLE, KIDS
Nui Nui's favorite character set has recently been My Little Pony. She's been collecting the miniature figures that primarily come in blind bags.
Today, we saw a little girl at lunch with a bunch of the medium-sized ones and I was naming those ponies left and right like a pro. You know your kid is into something when you can name all the characters. Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Applejack... The passion is real. 😂
Mom thinks they're like the Britney Spears for kids, as they sing their poppy songs. I remember liking MLP when I was a kid but don't remember them singing or much about them. Then again, I didn't have an iPad.
Here's something I appreciate about them, though. They fuel my daughter's interest in singing-- she doesn't like dance so I'll take the singing! :> Last night she sang karaoke-style, following lyrics, learning new songs, and singing along, promoting literacy and strengthening her reading (and vocal!) skills. It was quite a trip to watch :>
So, this morning, I teased her about putting her hair up, as we were in the bathroom, doing our morning routine and getting ready for the day. She never likes her hair up. Ever. But I put her hair in a side ponytail and the only way I could tell her to keep it in for just a few seconds longer was for us to take a selfie while she was an MLP herself!
And there you have it-- a rare side pony, a beautiful teethy smile, and some blur, as I need to up my left-handed selfie game! xo

Orange Is The New Black [ANIMATED GIFS!]
And the saga of my hair continues... I finally tried ombre-ing it this past long weekend, using the Loreal Feria Intense Ombre kit for Dark Brown to Soft Black hair.
I've never had any other hair color except black. Perhaps this is my interpretation of 'living a little' :> lmfao. jk. It didn't turn out exactly as I had planned (though I didn't really plan on anything). I had about 1 hour or less and I tried to make do with I had.
Thoughts, comments? What do you think?

Single shots... pin it! :>

Day After Major Haircut! [VIDEO]
In case you missed it, here's How I Cut My Hair— long to short. It was a lot of hair.
The following day, I filmed my next-day reaction— it's usually hard to tell what you think of your new haircut the same day you get it, isn't it? :>
Thanks, buzzr021531, for your really nice comments— made my day! :>
'I really like it! And major points for having the balls to do it yourself. :)'
Have something to say, leave it in the Comments, we'd love to hear! :> xoxo
...I'm actually posting this about a couple of weeks after the fact. I have more plans for my 'do. Stay tuned for more changes! :> xoxo

I Cut My Hair! And My Advice For Cutting Your Own Hair :>
Never say never...
At one point, I thought I'd never go short again but have recently been watching a particular vlogging family and loved the mom's hair length (she's since cut her hair even shorter). I was originally intending to leave it a little longer than it currently is but, midway cutting it, I decided to go a little shorter. I think my hair grows pretty quick and figured I might as well cut a little more so, in no time, it'll be the length I originally wanted. Turns out, I actually like the short length I ended up with.
It was a lot of hair. Only after holding it in the garbage did I realize how much I actually cut off— probably half my hair! I accomplished a lot on Memorial Day— vacuumed, went for an exploratory walk through an unfamiliar town, went for a swim, and chopped my hair. The latter took about an hour— not bad considering how much I cut. I figured I wouldn't have enough to ombre it but will likely (hopefully) do that soon.
The key to cutting your own hair is pulling small bits in the opposite direction it normally falls and cutting 'into' or parallel to your strands, towards your scalp, to achieve a choppy/layered look. Wasn't going for blunt but if that's your thing, by all means cut perpendicular/horizontally straight across.
I filmed myself cutting my hair and am importing the footage now. If it's decent, I'll edit and publish to youtube. Cross your fingers (and be on the lookout) for that! :>
So, what do you think?? Yay or nay? :>

Girl's First Major Hair Cut!! [Video]
Ok, yes, there was some crying and whining but a) she's two— to be expected and b) honestly, she was more concerned with the dirty floor and the piece of lint that looked like a bug than the actual cutting of hair. Truly.
This is Nui Nui's very first actual haircut. I've only really cut her bangs in the past so don't really consider those 'major'. Since her hair's been getting long, I've been meaning to cut her full head of hair and, as it's getting warmer and I guess because of the Spring Forward, I jumped into action and made it happen. [It's amazing what a bright day when you get out of work can do— I felt like I had a whole day ahead of me :>].
I'm not sure how her hair would have turned out if a hair stylist/kids cuts specialistwould have done it, but I can't afford it and actually don't care. I'm sure tomorrow I'll find some longer pieces out of hiding but I enjoyed the memory, the time together, and the resulting Meg Ryan pixi cut :>

Hello Kitty Barrette
Nui Nui got a Hello Kitty gift set from a family friend this past week. It included a backpack (which I'll have to post soon), < something else I think >, and a barrette (below).
Normally, Nui Nui doesn't like things in her hair but I think she's slowly (slowly) growing more into the idea of participating in this girly act. She brought the barrette to me (to me) and tried putting it in herself. After a cute attempt, I helped her do it properly and she willingly accepted and sported the kitty. Meow.
Normally, I don't dig the Hello Kitty thing but this is her second gift of it so will just accept it as a fact of #momlife raising a little girl (not complaining :>).

Rockin' The Studded Boots! :>
Nui Nui insisted on trying my boots tonight. We finished dinner early, which is always nice, so had some more time to play. We were running around for much of the night.
Latest developments/updates?
She loves me chasing her and her chasing me.
She still loves airplane when I try to do crunches and likes to crawl all over me when I'm on the floor.
She likes to pretend to play the piano.
She's getting good at drawing circles (or ovals, whichever).
She still doesn't know where I am even if I'm standing right in front of her but with a towel on my head.
She still loves choy choy.
She now knows what is and how to say 'wafer' and 'bed sheet'. She's starting to sing along with songs— 'up and down' [Wheels On The Bus]. She continues to learn more and more moves with songs— ie. slamming her high chair tray during this 'honk honk honk' portion of, again, Wheels On The Bus. She's started to discover and like to play hide-and-seek [walking inside my closet].
She loves to climb and stand on things.
She loves jumping and playing on my bed.
She likes to try on my shoes... :> :>

Such a 'dai guo nui'! [translation: big girl!]. Look at her! My goodness :> :>

Nui Nui's shirt says: Destined To Be Forever Wild. What are you destined to be? Share below, we'd love to hear! :>
