Halloween 2015 Trick Or Treating! - [MOMLIFE]

A Look At Tummy Time Close Up - Sisters [MOMLIFE]

Tummy time is one of Nui Nui's favorite times, which is a little surprising since the baby inevitably will eventually get frustrated and cry. But Nui Nui is so supportive and encouraging, and so excited when the baby lifts her head. It's even actually one of the things that can get Nui Nui to immediately stop and jump away from whatever she's doing, including the iPad.

It's so interesting to see children's reactions to small babies. When they hear a newborn's cries, they identify them, want to see them, ask questions about and touch them. I never knew this but have experienced it firsthand now, since I was in my final trimester and ongoing. What fun it is and how thankful I am that Nui Nui can have a sibling, who she loves and is so proud to have.

Love my girls, my little warriors. This is family. xo

My Little [Side] Pony! [HAIRSTYLE, KIDS

Nui Nui's favorite character set has recently been My Little Pony. She's been collecting the miniature figures that primarily come in blind bags.

Today, we saw a little girl at lunch with a bunch of the medium-sized ones and I was naming those ponies left and right like a pro. You know your kid is into something when you can name all the characters. Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Applejack... The passion is real. 😂

Mom thinks they're like the Britney Spears for kids, as they sing their poppy songs. I remember liking MLP when I was a kid but don't remember them singing or much about them. Then again, I didn't have an iPad.

Here's something I appreciate about them, though. They fuel my daughter's interest in singing-- she doesn't like dance so I'll take the singing! :> Last night she sang karaoke-style, following lyrics, learning new songs, and singing along, promoting literacy and strengthening her reading (and vocal!) skills. It was quite a trip to watch :>

So, this morning, I teased her about putting her hair up, as we were in the bathroom, doing our morning routine and getting ready for the day. She never likes her hair up. Ever. But I put her hair in a side ponytail and the only way I could tell her to keep it in for just a few seconds longer was for us to take a selfie while she was an MLP herself!

And there you have it-- a rare side pony, a beautiful teethy smile, and some blur, as I need to up my left-handed selfie game! xo

Reteaching What My Daughter Learned In School [MOMLIFE]

I wish I could say my daughter is a romantic but, instead, she's been hanging out with boy toddlers in school and this is what she had to say about these dinosaurs:
'Mama, look! They're tongues are fighting!'

Yesterday actually got me a little concerned about the boys she's recently been hanging out with. I'm guessing this happened during optional dance class, which she is not taking (despite my hope for her to) while every other girl in the class is. Ok. Gender stereotype, I know, that's why I didn't force her to take it and she's not.

Everyday, we make it a habit to talk about our day during dinner. She was excited to talk about hers.

She began:
I played with [Boy1], [Boy2], and [Boy3]!
Me: O, cool! What did you guys do?
Her: We made weapons!

Yikes. This is not the first time this has happened and made me uneasy. It was a different school and a kid who had older brothers. She became besties with a girl for a while so this hadn't come up again until now.

Other than these kids, there would be no reason why she would know anything about things of this nature-- guns, weapons, 'psh psh psh'.

Unfortunately enough, amongst other things, she's learning about things that kill-- in school, no less. I'm pretty upset about it but this is amongst the first bitter tastes of reality that this is the world we live in and I just cannot protect her forever from knowledge of these things. So, we've started to begin to unlearn or reteach things at home, as I try to keep the conversation open and flowing and learn about what she's picking up out in the big scary world when she isn't with me. xo

Chicken And Roast Pork Fried Rice + Broccoli [FOOD]

There's a whole lot of yum going on in this bowl.

My love of homemade fried rice dates back to childhood. A simple, one-dish meal, quick and easy-to-eat, good and good for you. The kind you get at chinese restaurants are nothing to compare, laden with oil, msg, and never enough of the dish's gems.

Fried rice is a great way to make use of leftovers and easy way to incorporate veggies into a meal.

We really love our vitamins and fiber (not to mention added flavor), so did add some broccoli to the side, though it could have been mixed in as well. xo
