Still Living At Home [LIFE, KIDSTYLE]

It's been a tough year-- epic morning sickness, discrimination, layoff, to name a few. That said, however, there are many things to be thankful for this year.

Among my top highlights of the year:

Without a doubt, at the very top was bringing our newest addition of the family, my second daughter, home. Healthy and happy, she integrated beautifully into our family. We all love her and she's made our home an even happier place full of even more love and laughter.

The other top highlight: a visit from Home. We haven't been back home since we left, nearly four years ago. Four years. Man, just saying that sounds like ages. And it is. So many things have happened since. Yet where we are still doesn't feel like Home either.

When our family friend (since childhood), or 'framily', dropped in for an unexpected visit, it brought back so many memories and warm feelings. It was like the first time it felt like I was at home once again. Sounds weird, I'm sure. It's hard to explain but it made my year to see our dear family friend and for her to meet baby E. Now remembering back, she came to the hospital and met Nui Nui on the day of her arrival, too.

Then, again unexpectedly, we recently received an overly generous holiday care package from her, and baby E is now rocking the onesie that was included.

'Still living at home', it says. And always in my heart they will be, I'll add :>

There's nothing like those people in your life that, no matter how long you haven't seen them and no matter how far away they live, that when you do meet up once again, it feels like just yesterday. Folks like these: priceless.

Love you and thank you, Auntie May! We heart you always! xo

Baby's Cheetah-Velour Outfit Of The Day! [KID STYLE]

We're finally beginning to wear the steals we got from the Black Friday weekend sale.

Target had an awesome clothing, shoes, and accessory sale with everything 40% off so we definitely took advantage of that, especially when it came to getting the baby some clothes.

I'm surprised, though at the same time not surprised, with how few clothing pieces we had for Nui Nui. But I'm a different mom now than back then when I was a new mom. Back then, I found comfort in kimono tops and sleepers. Now, I'm interested in the baby wearing actual clothes during the day. (Not saying it happens all the time but the majority of it :>)

I love this outfit. The pants are velour and blue-- Nui Nui/big sister's favorite color. The top is animal-print, always a personal favorite, and free of any cheesy writing/design. While all for design, if it's cutesy, I'm over it.

Details of the outfit, as always, are below. For more of we got on Black Friday, be sure to check out our haul video on our YouTube Channel, youtube.com/piecesofm. xo

Kids Clothing Haul! - Baby's First Outfit [VIDEO]

When I brought Nui Nui home from the hospital, I can't remember if I packed her a 'going-home' outfit. I probably did but didn't end up using it. A first time mom, I brought her home in her hospital shirt and cap, no pants. I swaddled her throughout her first few days of life, pantsless. It was a warm day. I probably covered her with a blanket. I thought she was fine.

I remember, though, the nurse commenting— 'you don't have an outfit?' Must've stung a little, since I remember it to this day.

Recently, I've been seeing a number of friends on Facebook posting pics of their newest family members and noticed these outfits. Apparently, it's a thing? So, the pressure was slightly on. So ridiculous, I know.

I asked a couple of friends if they had these 'going-home' outfits. One said yes. The other said probably but she couldn't remember what it was exactly. Honestly, I'd have brought my kid home swaddled if it weren't for the driving/carseat/safety issue.

So, I said to myself, with just a little over a week before my due date, that I'd try to look for an outfit but won't kill myself over it. I did go to a number of places but all were local and not out of the way.

This weekend, on a mother-daughter/(big sister-to-be) outing, I did end up finding something...

I think the most important thing is, is that I ended up having a great day with my firstborn on this outfit hunt. I think the other important thing to realize is, as my friend reminded me, that I just need to do me, no one else. Love hard, be me. The rest will fall into place.

That said, H&M has a really good, affordable kids selection of clothing, if you're on the market. Just saying :> xo

Rediscovering My Wardrobe With A Bump And A Smile [STYLE]

I've admittedly been having a lot of fun with these mini pregnancy photo shoots I've been doing lately.

When Nui Nui was little, I finally got a job that required me to dress up, somewhat corporate I suppose, so was forced to go shopping for clothes with a business look in mind. While doing so, I got more into playing with and developing my own style (not business).

Over a few short years, I expanded my wardrobe to a variety of pieces and accessories. I had a brief stint of fashion interest before I left New York but since pregnant and moving to California, that faded. Prior to that, I probably hadn't seriously shopped for clothes (or cared about what I wore/looked like) for over a decade.

As Nui Nui got a little older, took shorter naps, and actually began having shops she wanted to visit, I began to browse less and less at what was in store and became less fashion inspired.

I also had a lot of other things going on so tended back to wearing things mindlessly. Because that's what happens. As Mark Zuckerberg responded to a question about why he wears the same gray t-shirt everyday:
'I really want to clear my life to make it so that I have to make as few decisions as possible about anything except how to best serve this community.'

When you've got a lot on your mind and/or in your life, you try to simplify the daily routine as much as possible.

Anyway, so now that I've been wanting to document as much of this pregnancy as I can, I've been rediscovering my wardrobe again. Variety has once again become the spice of life— clothing pieces, accessories, smiles, belly, and all. xo
