Friday Night Italian Dinner Date!

Some parents are always equipped with toys. I always carry around paper and a pen for entertainment. It's light, it's easy, it's always (well, usually) entertaining— and educational :>.

We went to one of our neighborhood go-to's on Friday night and ordered two of our favorite dishes (probably our top two favorites, actually :>). Grilled lamb chops (or rack of lamb) with sauteed kale and potato wedges; fettuccine carbonara with tomatoes, peas, mushrooms, and bacon in a light garlic cream sauce. It's a no-brainer and, after a short long week, not having to think about what to eat helps :>

First Home-Grown Tomato Picked!

Our Very First Tomato Plant!

I had been meaning to get Nui Nui a plant for a while now— either start from seed or get a plantling. Finally, a couple of weeks ago, we picked one up for her at a local Home Depot. I wasn't set on anything and just went to see what they had— I'm no green thumb.

We decided on a tomato plantling&mdashl Container Tomatoes? Something like that because we plan to grow it on our balcony and need it, well, contained :>

This post is actually long overdue. When we bought the plantling, it had maybe two or three tiny green tomatoes growing from it. I took the pics below when one of them, our first, turned red. Today, actually, we picked this first red one (sorry to spoil the news— a video of that will be up soon :>).

Our Very First Tomato Plant!

It's hard to believe my baby sprout is now babying a sprout of her own :> She's growing up so fast.

I've been meaning to get her a plant for a while now. Her school has a mini garden, growing a huge pumpkin, rainbow chard, and tomatoes. Every time I pick her up, it's fun to see how much they've grown. There are plenty of other places she's been exposed to plants and gardens, like in her class' learning activities and even the storybook app she plays at the Apple store.

Personally, I've never been a real gardener (or plant person) but it's cool chicks like Nui Nui that totally expand my world :> Mom, on the other hand, is one experienced lady. When I was growing up, she had a real garden— with zucchini, tomatoes, green beans, and probably more. She's a real pro and I'm glad she can teach both Nui Nui and I :>

We have a new addition to our family: Peppa Pig! Nui Nui wanted me to take this picture of Peppa, who sat on the window sill and watched Nui Nui as she ate dinner :>

Do you know who Peppa is? I didn't until just recently and I love her accent and the show's intro :> Nui Nui and I recite it all the time. It's become one of our things. And occasionally, out of no where, I'll start singing the theme song. lmfao.
